The time is incredibly right to join Netflix as we continue to transform the entertainment sector. To our more than 230 million members in 190 different countries, we send billions of hours of movies and TV each month. With the help of Netflix content, we hope to amuse everyone. We need to be able to quickly and anywhere create and deliver state-of-the-art experiences for our members and creators if we want to achieve this.
How we are.
In order to help other teams understand the effects of changes before they are put into practice in production, such as when a code change is added to an application, resilience engineering is a goal at Netflix. Our platform and tools are used by many of Netflix's most significant services in order to confidently and securely deliver changes to production for those services.
We provide teams with the assurance they need to make changes while assisting them in assessing whether those changes are operating as expected and resulting in the desired outcomes. We also help them determine whether any unintended consequences of the change—like an increase in error rates or latency, for example—would be detrimental to Netflix users.
One significant way we do this is by running a "canary.". An experiment known as a "canary" compares operational metrics between two iterations of a service to see if a change would be detrimental to customers. The effectiveness of a change can also be determined using this method. For example, did the modification you anticipated make have the desired effect of reducing latency?
Our platform also contributed to the Netflix snarl. The outcomes of various failure scenarios are examined by services using chaos. Because of this, services can respond to questions like "What happens if latency or errors between a service and its dependency increase dramatically? ".
There is a ton of additional information about what we do in these presentations.
